Portrait of an Afghan baker and his son. Shot taken in Kabul, when on assignment with the World Bank.
Ethnic Russian, living in Dushanbe hawking a variety of state-controlled newspapers and periodicals. New editions come out only once weekly.
Although in Tajikistan most children go to school, particularly the boys, come harvest time, everyone works in the field.
Another young boy working in the field along with other members of his family and community.
Blind peanut vendor in Cairo, Egypt. Sold peanuts everyday on the 26th of July bridge that connected the east and west banks of the Nile.
Egyptian silk spinner in Zagazig, Egypt (toward the Delta). Most silk is homespun with inported silkworms. An old bicycle wheel is a part of the makeshift spinning wheel.
Photographed these traditionally dressed women in Istanbul. Turkey has been wrestling with its officially secular society vs. the rising trend of women who are openly dressing more conservatively. It has been the source of much debate that has reached the highest levels of government. It is a controversy also seen in non-muslim countries such as France and Great Britian.
