Entomology 211
Copyright
2006
"Entomology” evolved from a children's book on drawing insects. By the time I had finished puzzling out the ill-written instructions for every insect portrayed, I was hungry for more. I've always been fascinated with earth sciences, and insects appeal to my inner scientist. Strangely enough, when I started working on this show, the portrayals were fairly accurate, but as I created more and more pieces, they became more like representations of insects, then devolved into symbols of insects, with one piece eventually displaying nothing but symbols.
This is pen and ink with iridescent acrylic. The background is from a Japanese tombstone rubbing in soft pastel. This piece comes matted in a 22x28 frame.
The piece you see here is pen and ink with marker and a soft pastel grave rubbing. Framed and matted.
