About
I have always had a great love for the landscapes of Yorkshire, as I grew up weekends were spent exploring the beautiful countryside. I produce paintings of bold atmospheric scenes and I am strongly influenced by the changing seasons.
The elements and untamed force of nature often inspire my paintings as does the strength of light but most importantly colour. I interprit a lot of my work with abstract elements and use strong shapes and lines to bring the painting together these are often inspired by the coastal presence in my home town.
Other influences in my work have been the paintings of artists Paul Klee, Prunella Clough and David Hockney and the graphic work of Charley Harper. I also like to study the street art of Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin.
My paintings are not overtly textural and painterly, I try to create interest with a careful build up of thin glazes, often over an initial thick layer of paint the result is rich, colourful and uplifting. The majority of my work is done on canvas using acrylic paint which I apply using a brush, pallette knife, cloth or fingers, to add an organic feel or to create a sense of movement I use liquid acrylics.
To research my studies I sketch and photograph on location and create the finished piece in my home studio. I also work in pen and ink, watercolour and lino cutting, however my preferred method is in acrylic.

| Hey there, I love your work! Are you North Yorkshire based? If so I'd be interested in showcasing your work on our website - Creative North Yorkshire. The site is being totally redeveloped and we want plenty of interesting and vibrant imagery for the new look as well as profiling up and coming talent in North Yorkshire. Interested? | |
