Joel Koos is Sculptor and Printmaker with the extraordinary ability to reanimate discarded pieces nature and fabricate them into a thing of aesthetic beauty. His idea of Rebirth from Refuse is a way of reminding the viewers of his work that, even in its demise, a natural object never losses it’s true exquisiteness.
Living along the south shore of Long Island, Joel has discovered numerous natural objects to incorporate into his work. He collects rocks, tree branches, leaves and other organic materials from the local landscape. The organic matter is then combined with synthetic materials to resolve the completed work.
Recently, Joel has been using carnivorous plants within the installations to broaden the scope of his environmental message.
Joel’ latest series, called Hydrophobicity, can be viewed in galleries around the Tri-State area.
