I have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Photography from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I love color, typography and texture. Right now, photography is my main interest, but I still break open the graphic design skills every now and then. I also work with seed beads and make bead-worked pieces. I currently have a show here in Mankato at the Fillin' Station Coffeehouse and another set up for September at The Hag Coffeehouse. With photography I try to show the vibrancy of things. I like to get as close to something as I can to get into all the little nooks and crannies then nature creates. Natural abstractions, intricacies and extremes are the details I like to showcase. In many ways, the Great Mother is the artist and I'm just showing her off.

Visual textures are something else that goes with this idea. Seeing the grain in wood, the grit of sand or stone or the softness of a flower are triggers the mind gives the body the remember. And if a piece can trigger a memory of touch, that's awesome.

Color! Color! Color! I love color! Even in my black and whites, I've been told that people still think they see color. The eye sees an image, the brain says, that's a little weird, something's missing and the person unconsciously superimposes a light hue over the photo. In my colors, try to get colors to stand out a little more than they normally would with contrasts and brightnesses.

Ultimately, what I'm trying to do in my photos is not only showcase these great places we live in, but I'm trying to find a happy medium between what the eyes see and what the mind remembers. Sometimes it harsh and cold, sometimes it's soft and warm, but it's always real.
