About
My name is Laila. but you can call me Laila. I'm a self taught painter and i love working in photoshop illustrator & indesign and have a big love for all things graphic design. i love dabbling in photography. nothing fancy schmancy. just me and my digital camera. i dig all things ART also. art art art. i eat it up and drink it down and sniff it up. i also attempt to play guitar (attempt being the key word...), i highly enjoy cooking, i highly enjoy books (i don't mean just reading. i also love books themselves as an object), and i highly enjoy using my hands to make things. can ya dig it?

| Thanks! I really like the paintings! I went to LSU for a little while, but didn't have the grades (a.k.a I didn't have enough political pull) for graphic design school | |

| It's all about networking, and doing things for cheap at first (not free, cheap). It's definitely not easy to get started, at first I actually would contact people and ask them if they would like me to do a few band posters, a logo, maybe some tshirt art. I posted my stuff on my website, myspace and facebook and eventually it kind of snowballs. As for the steady job with steady income, it's crucial to have something like that, but just keep in mind, if you enjoy the freelance stuff and creative freedom, it's likely you WON'T enjoy a 9-5. | |

| You can definitely have a 9-5 and do freelance stuff on the side. When I say 9-5, I mean like working for a large corporation, and not ALL corporations are miserable places. I'm just talking from personal experience, when I worked for big companies, not a whole lot of creativity was involved. It's very possible to have a badass job working for a big company. But to answer your question about being able to do both, you CAN do both, but you have to be careful not to overwhelm yourself (which is very easy to do). For the freelancing, you have to set realistic deadlines, and realistic prices. Do some research to see how much other graphic designers charge for specific jobs and whether it's a flat rate or by the hour. And you're not badgering me at all, I enjoy giving advice, I wish I had it when I was getting started. | |
