About
In 1963 on the south side of Chicago Mark Matlock (aka matlocktheartist) was born into art. His paternal uncles and cousins are a mix of illustrators, painters and sculptors, and his father was a master photographer with portrait studios in New York and Chicago. "Fragment Gallery represents the modern High/Lowbrow art movement in the Artists Warehouse District of Tucson, Arizona. The name Fragment came from the idea that an art movement exists which encompasses a wide variety of styles, techniques and philosophies to represent the past and present, social and political cultures in which we live. Fragment Gallery's purpose is to present the underground visual art movement very much "aboveground". - Mark Matlock Owner/Curator We are located in the Citizen's Warehouse at 44 W. 6th Street, Studio-2A near the corner of 6th St. & Stone Ave.
Raised in big melting-pot cities, such as Chicago, New York, and Rome, Matlock found as much visual inspiration from the various people he observed as in the locations where he lived. At a young age Matlock showed paintings at group shows in New York, and later would go on to do both solo and group exhibits in Chicago, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona. After attending four years at the High School of Art & Design in New York, Matlock would devote himself to understanding the nuances of artistic mediums and the human figure. He’s as proficient with oils and acrylics as he is with digital tools.
Matlocktheartist is the owner and curator of Fragment Gallery in Tucson Arizona.
