About
The need to document intense experiences and emotions drives me to make my work. The majority of my paintings are brought to life in the form of abstractions that reinvent the traditional figure-ground relationship. I enjoy creating large-scale paintings that, both physically and psychologically, allow me to become lost within them.
An essential part of my artistic process involves building up my working surface using untraditional materials such as strips of fabric, glass, Styrofoam, and glitter. This composite texture ultimately shapes the painting that I develop on top. My most recent work pushes the boundaries of what would traditionally be considered painting. The 3-dimensional forms I fabricate have forced me to think a lot about light and shadow. Thus, I essentially paint with light.
I like to create work that breaks free from the picture plane, while still referencing its presence. The idea that my work has the ability to exert its own force and, ultimately, escape from the space it “should” possess excites me.
