About
Our goal is to nurture talent, facilitate exhibition opportunities, and provide professional development assistance to emerging artists of the African Diaspora. We are currently planning our first emerging artist exhibition, Dawning of A New Day: Perspectives on Black America which is slated to open in May 2009 in the Gallery District of Washington DC. We are working on a wide arrange of other programs and events that are listed on our website, www.moblackart,org.
In addition to its three annual exhibitions, MBA is in the process of implementing several professional development tools for artists in the form of workshops, seminars, artists talks, and networking sessions for the art community.
Our workshop series entitled Art as Industry is a seven part series designed to tackle many of the common aspects of art as a business. Topics will include Self Promotion and Marketing, Understanding the Gallery System, Public Art and Becoming a Public Artist, Alternative Careers in Art, The Language of Art and Its Application, Not A Starving Artists: Funding A Career in Art, and Building Blocks. The series is slated to launch in Spring 2009.
Networking sessions will be informal events held once a month in several cities along the east coast (New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.).
