About
Stuart is currently living and working in Milan. He is among other things an Art teacher, postgraduate student of Anthropology and conceptual/environmental artist. Stuart studied graphic design at City College in Manchester before going to complete a BA in Visual Art at the University of Salford, he was also an Erasmus Scholar in Fine Arts at the Universidad do Porto. Initially Stuart's art practise took him to such diverse locations as Amsterdam, Manchester and the mountains of Wales and he participated in residencies in the Islington Mill Gallery in Salford and at Artoll in Germany. However, remembering Brecht's dichtum that art is not a mirror reflecting society but a hammer with which to change it, in 2002 Stuart left the art world behind to volunteer in Sudan. Since his return from Africa he has obtained his teaching qualifications from the University of Wales and taught in Mexico City for four years before moving to Milan in the Summer of 2008. Stuart is slowly resuming his art practise and has plans for further work in the coming months. His influences include: Richard Long, Jospeh Beuys, Guy Debord and the Situationists and Fluxus.
