About
Born on Christmas of '82 in Long Island, N.Y., Enrique Simmons grew up in Central Islip. A very shy kid growing up, with little to no self-esteem and depression growing inside, he lived in his own world and found that he loved living there and that drawing it made it even more exciting. Drawing dinosaurs, monsters, and anything else he deemed fun at the time his imagination grew and his love for drawing led him to comic books. He copied the art of his favorite comics from "PITT" to "X-MEN" and anything else that was visually appealing as he didn't get the comics because of the story, but for the art inside. His dream to be a comic book artist was being realized. He wanted to be an inker , as his fear for adding color to his pieces was strong because he was always afraid of messing them up with color, destroying all his hard work. Black and white just seemed so neat and clean to him and more eye catching. He then tried his hand at creating his own characters for years and began obtaining How-to books on superhero's and character design. Enrique found out he was not very good at it... atleast he thought he wasn't. His character's, he believed, lacked the artistic flare that he saw in the comics he purchased. Then Anime came into his life after seeing the epic film "Akira". So, he tried that for awhile. He found it easier, but still came to the same conclusion that his characters lacked the artistic flare that all his favorite Anime movies had.
Enrique's love for art never died, however. He just felt lost, confused, depressed and fustrated and didn't know what type of artist he wanted to be. Discouraged by this he missed out on many opprotunities growing up and even dropped out of college twice! He was extremely fustrated and depressed over his lack of skill. For many years art just seemed like more of a hobby to him at times, but he knew that in his heart and soul that art will be with him till the day he dies and he will keep at it till he made it one way or another. So, he kept at it and tried different mediums. His mind being everywhere all the time, he just didn't like sticking with just one style or medium. Which brings us to present day where he mixes mediums and techniques in all his pieces. He has found his place in the art world finally and is now working torwards claiming his spot and making his presence known in a world that is saturated with so much talented artist.
Enrique feels he can't place his art work in any specific genre, being a self-taught artist and all. He has been described as being neat with his art, but that isn't his focus. His main focus for his pieces is style, flow, feeling, and over-all balance... compostition. Enrique wants his pieces to make sense visually, but not mentally... leaving them open to as many interpretations as he can fit in one piece of art work.
